I was born in 1959 in Charleston, WV. My parents are Mose and
Wanda Holmes. My mother and father sang in a gospel group for
most of their adult life, they sand in the original Union Valley Gospel Trio. Dad bought me my first guitar when I was about nine or ten years old. After learning to play the guitar, I became interested in other stringed instruments. I got my first banjo when I was about 13, and then at 15, I started learning the piano. I later learned to play the mandolin, the dobro and the fiddle. I never had any lessons. I play by ear and I will be the first to tell you that it is a gift from God. God has blessed me in many ways. I had good Christian parents that tried to raise me the right way. My mom was called home in 1994 and my father in 2008. Dad went with us to our engagements right up until he was 84 years old and would sing a couple songs for the audience. He loved singing and people loved to hear him sing. He had a great gift. His voice was as strong as ever.
